Baker Hughes wins Excellence Award for advancing offshore sustainability

The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) has named Baker Hughes as the winner of the fourth annual NOIA Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) Excellence Award. The NOIA ESG Excellence Award highlights and recognises those who, by their actions, design, or influence, are contributing to the advancement of the ideals embodied by the NOIA ESG Principles.

NOIA President Erik Milito congratulated Baker Hughes. He said: “Baker Hughes exemplifies the broader commitment of the offshore energy industry, companies dedicated to being good neighbours, responsible stakeholders, and positive contributors to the communities they serve. The data-driven, holistic approach demonstrated by Baker Hughes sets a high standard for the offshore sector, advancing environmental performance, community impact, and governance practices together.

“We also want to thank all the entrants for their outstanding contributions. The mindset demonstrated by Baker Hughes is shared across the industry, showing how offshore energy continues to innovate, improve, and deliver meaningful benefits to society.”

Chris Johnson, Vice President of North America Offshore for Baker Hughes, added: “Baker Hughes is honored to accept this award as a testament to our leadership in taking energy forward, making it safer, cleaner, and more efficient for the people and the planet. Since 2019, we have reduced our scope one and two emissions by almost 30 percent and expanded the ability of our customers to operate remotely. It’s estimated for every service engineer we transition to remote work away from an offshore rig, we reduce that employee’s travel and housing-related carbon emissions by nearly six tons of CO2 annually. With our operations servicing more than 3,000 wells each day, this represents a significant impact. As energy demand increases, we will continue to support our customers to advance their sustainability journeys.”

The judges recognised Baker Hughes for the broad, enterprise-wide scope of its entry, the use of data and innovation to measure and drive progress, and its comprehensive achievement across environmental, social, and governance priorities.

Baker Hughes will share more about its winning entry during the 2026 NOIA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., April 2026.
